"The sweetest thing in all my life has been the longing —
to reach the Mountain, to find the place where all the beauty came from —
my country, the place where I ought to have been born. Do you think it all meant nothing,
all the longing? The longing for home? For indeed it now feels not like going, but like going back."

"Stay present, notice beauty, remember to live."

Dear child,

Sometimes it is enough to simply live.

There is so much you want to do, so much beauty you want to offer, so many lives you want to change. That is good, and there is indeed much to do.

As long as you remember to live.

Do you see the snow melting down rivulets into the red-pine woodchips by the sidewalk? I watched those pines grow, slowly, every day, even when you didn’t, but when you breathe in their scent, you remember how I let them grow. Do you see the barista in Caribou Coffee with her necklace and earrings, turquoise and silver catching the afternoon light? I let her find those with her mother, two years ago, and when you tell her they are beautiful, you remind her of those times. Do you see the robin who insists it's a January spring, pecking on the dirty parking lot ice? I caused him to fly into your path to make you smile—but if you hadn’t been present, you would have missed his crazy little jaunt past your Corolla.

Stay present, notice beauty, remember to live.

Life is a series of now’s and the future never comes, because you are finite. But that is perfect! I made you finite, and I said at the beginning that that was very good. You don’t know everything—that is very good. You don’t ever stop dreaming or seeing new adventures and possibilities—that is very good. You don’t ever reach the future—that is very good. You are always learning—that is very good. Your idea of Me never stops growing and being refined in truth—that is very good.

It doesn’t mean you’re not enough.

It means you are My child.
